We Fished 300ft Deep in Canada

August is prime time for Chinook salmon fishing in Powell River, and when the bite turns on, it can be some of the best action of the season.

In this episode of Connect Fishing Experiences, we head out on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia with Chase Salisbury from eXp Realty for a full day of trolling deep water in search of big Chinook.

Fishing Deep for Chinook Salmon

During peak season, Chinook often hold deep — sometimes 200 to 300 feet down — especially when bait is concentrated lower in the water column. That means dialing in your gear, watching your electronics closely, and committing to fishing deep.

We set up and start working those deeper zones, covering water and adjusting as needed. When it all lines up — bait, depth, and timing — the results can be fast and aggressive.

Peak Season on the Sunshine Coast

Powell River is one of the most consistent fisheries on the Sunshine Coast, offering:

Strong Chinook returns in summer

Easy access to productive offshore water

Reliable trolling opportunities

Scenic, protected coastal conditions

When the August bite is on, it doesn’t take long to know you’re in the right place.

A Day That Delivered

This trip had everything you want — good company, solid conditions, and fish that were willing to go. Trolling deep paid off, and it’s a great reminder that sometimes the difference is simply getting your gear down to where the fish are.

If you’re planning a summer fishing trip in BC, Chinook fishing in Powell River should be high on your list.
