Episode 4: Hidden Coho Salmon Spots on the Vedder River

In this episode of Connect Fishing Experiences, we head back to the coast for a spontaneous day of coho salmon fishing on the Vedder River, one of British Columbia’s most popular autumn fisheries. After a quick shift in plans, the crew leaves Merritt, BC behind and links up with returning guest and guide Braden for some local insight.

This trip is all about adapting—hunting for hatchery coho in quieter side channels and hidden holding water. With boots on gravel bars and rods ready, it’s a relaxed, scenic walk-and-wade session with good laughs, beautiful fall light, and a few great fish in the net.

Coho Salmon Fishing in Hidden Spots on the Vedder River

Sometimes the best fishing adventures happen when you call an audible—and that’s exactly how this episode came together. After chasing salmon in Merritt, BC and hearing reports that the bite had faded in the Thompson and Shuswap areas, the Connect Fishing Experiences crew made a last-minute decision to head to the Vedder River.

We reconnect with guide Braden, who had great success the day prior. His intel puts us on productive water for coho salmon, focusing on hatchery fish and less-pressured side channels where fish often stack up undisturbed.

Boots-On-the-Ground Coho Action
The Vedder is known for its access, beauty, and fall salmon runs—and it delivered again. We fish a variety of baits and jigs, chat about the differences between hatchery and wild fish, and cover how to read holding water. Along the way, we pick up a few quality fish, release some wilds, and soak in the autumn scenery.
